Juli Ndoci
Open the windows, Installation, Video, 2009

In 1989, Juli Ndoce and her brother Frederik (who represented Albania at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest), won the national albanian song festival with the song »Land of Sun«. When the duo entered this competition again in 1990, their song »Open the windows«, which had a provocative text calling for Europe and freedom, was banned and both artists were banned from performing. Juli was told she should consider herself lucky not to have ended up in prison. When pressed to take up a career in structural engineering rather than attending the arts academy, Juli decided to flee and came to Germany. In the hotel room, she is showing an installation including the two songs from the years 1989 and 1990 and notes, photographs, sketches, stories and memories from her personal and professional life.
