Stephan Balkenhol furnishes the empty hotel room with a paravent (room-divider) – a piece of furniture that has been nearly forgotten but in former times was often used to establish small, private corners in larger spaces. Easy to move, delicate and elegant, this sculpture that at the same time is a double-sided tryptichon divides the small room. But »division« is not the theme; rather it shows two sides: Stephan Balkenhol lets three mammoth ants scramble on one side while on the other side a car that could hail from a papercraft is shown. It reproduces characteristics of the paravent such as decomposability. The car seems to have been stranded in the plain; the ants, in contrast, are as fresh as a daisy and oversized.
